I tried to find the answer to this question by myself....but I'm at a loss and pulling my hair out. Can anybody tell me......Where are all of the decent, respectful men at?? Which way did they go, which way did they go? Did they somehow become extinct with the coming of the new century.....or are they simply played out now like light-skinned brothers. Is it just me, or does it seem like men today have more issues than JET, give me a break!!!!For this piece....I don't even think I have to say much more. Ladies (and men) SOUND OFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Over the past few weeks, I have heard many people's opinions about the discontinuation of filming the First 48 within the city of Memphis. Initially, the concept of the show was to highlight the police department's (201) expertise in solving and managing homicides......however that was not the end result. Many tourists and OUTSIDERS are now viewing Memphis as a city of terror. Hell, after watching the show, there are times that I felt the same way.....Now, that is definitely not the image that we want portrayed when we have made so many strides towards becoming a progressive and growing city...but is it their fault that our citizens give them so much to work with. Now that the First 48 is gone....I know that local and large businesses will be elated at the thoughts of future revenues and colleges will thrive by continuing to recruit the top athletes,.....but I want to know how is this really going to help the crime or will it???? Can we make a decision already, please!!!!!! As you all know, since the development of the Fed-Ex Forum, the beautiful, Egyptian image shaped building has been out of commission. What is the city waiting on.... we have had several people place interest in the Pyramid....their different visions include turning the building into a headquarters for huge corporation such as International Paper and Bass Pro Shop or into a huge theme park and vacation resort....but the most recent vision includes a MEGA CHURCH....Cummings Street Baptist Church, Rev. Gary Faulkner, has placed interest in the building saying that he could use the space so that his members can all have one central location rather than continue to use various satellite locations. Sounds like a lot of great ideas, so what is the hold up. Maybe MLE can help out...post your comments about what you want to happen to the building before its' upkeep becomes the responsibility of the taxpayers.

Bernie Mac passes away at 50.

Bernie Mac, legendary actor and comedian, passed away at the age of 50 on Saturday, August 9Th, from complications associated with pneumonia in Chicago, IL hospital. Mac was being treated for pneumonia and was reported to be in stable condition Thursday. Mac, who had been nominated for an Emmy and Golden Globe for his performances, had suffered from sarcoidosis, an inflammatory lung disease that produces tiny lumps of cells in the body's organs. He had said the the condition went into remission in 2005, but was recently hospitalized to be treated for pneumonia. Sources report that he was expected to be discharged from the hospital in the next couple of weeks. Please help us in remembering Bernie Mac.......................Some of his most notable works include (but are not limited to), The Kings of Comedy...who want some milk and cookies, Life...you gon' eat yo cornbread, Friday, How To Be A Player, What's the worst that could Happen, The Bernie Mac Show, Ocean's Eleven, and Charlie's Angels.

Music Legend Passes Away at 65.

Unfortunately, we have lost yet another great legend in American Film and Music History....On Sunday, August 10, 2008.....Memphis native and music legend, Issac Hayes, passed away at the age of 65. Sources say that a family member found him unresponsive near a treadmill...and was pronounced dead about an hour later at Baptist Memorial Hospital. The cause of this death is currently unknown. Oh, how this truly saddens my heart, my prayers and love go out to the family. Please join us in a moment of silence for the Grammy and Academy award winner, soul legend Issac Hayes. May you forever be covered in God's good grace.

Finally, the City of Memphis and Memphis City Schools have come to an agreement (out of court) over who will fund the upcoming year's school districts. Yes, most certainly, this deserves a round of applause; but was anybody else shocked at the game of hot potato they played with the children of Memphis' education....But, now that's neither here nor there. I hope all have taken notes on what happens when you put your foot in your mouth and make threats...you end up paying the money out of pocket. - The school district will have to pay $57.5 million from its reserves to pay the city (for a previous debt)...in which the city will then donate the money back to Memphis City Schools.....hilarious..I know...read the CA or watch the news for more information. Now, the question of who is responsible for the funding in the future remains unresolved...stay tuned as the saga continues.

Sound the hounds...America's Cutest Couple is now open to the public....(j/k,lol)...Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith announce that they have an open relationship...What in the world....When did this come about?...What went wrong? They Look so Happy...but then again that might be why. You never really know what it going on behind the scenes do you....no pun intended. They began back in 2007 showcasing various music legends, by using the melodic performing talents of local artists. These artists honor the soul prodigies through song, spoken word, and instrumentation. This past Saturday, they held a Tribute to Stevie Wonder that was out of this world. It featured the local talents of Shawna P, Karen Brown, Cassie Bonner, and Will Graves. There was a soothing yet energizing vibe filling the New Daisy as the performances had couples two-stepping in the aisles and kept every one's heads nodding and hands clapping....some artists were even called back to the stage because the crowd couldn't get enough. What happened to uniting together to make a change....The other day, the honorable Reverend Jesse Jackson was accidentally recorded ( he thought the mic was off) making a very inappropriate and roguish comment about Senator Obama's testicles (lol, shocking I know...I thought the same thing). He was caught saying, " I want to cut his nuts off". What in the world would possess the Reverend to take it there? I understand that he may have some concerns and frustrations about Obama's stance on several issues surrounding the African American community....but dang? Let us know your views on the situation.

Why in the world are the tabloids publicizing and highlighting Jamie Lynn Spears'(Brittney's 17-year old sister) pregnancy, baby showers, new baby and family photos for all children to see.....like she is not the role model to many and Nickelodeon star of Zoey 101. How does this help the kids? What message does this send to other teens and children about abstinence and premarital sex? Congrats to the Memphis Tigers' very own, Derrick Rose for going #1 in the 2008 NBA Draft. He will be heading back home to play with the legendary, Chicago Bulls. But, it doesn't stop there, the Tigers ran away with the show. Teammates, Joey Dorsey also went to the Trail Blazers at No. 33 and Chris Douglass Roberts will be going to the New Jersey Nets with the 40th overall pick. The new squad will definitely have some big shoes to fill. MLE looks forward to what the new season will bring. Will we have another dream team for 2008-9? I don't know about y'all...but this is often the case for me when I get on 240 or 40 {E,W,N,or S headed in any direction} ....especially on my way to work. I find myself having to meditate (cum-ba-yah) and prepare myself to be annoyed by the irresponsible and impatient drivers that often swamp the roads and interstates. They struggle with failures to yield, failures to use proper turning signals, failure to use the mirrors, failure to use traffic signals (stop lights & signs), failure to drive with their hands (b/c they are talking on the cell phone, eating, texting, fighting, etc), and especially a failure to leave with the appropriate allotted travel time required for safe travel. I apologize if I sound disgruntled..but...PEOPLE, A lack of urgency on your behalf, does not constitute a sense of one on mine. It's strange, I only get high blood pressure when I'm in the car. At times, I literally want to throw the car in park, get out and throw down...but that wont solve anything...so here is an appropriate outlet to get those frustrations out. Sound off, about the strange or bizarre drivers and/or driving situations that you have come across while hitting the Memphis roads.

He did it!!! Hey, what can I say, "If the mole doesn't fit, you must acquit". (LOL). On Friday, jurors brought a six-year case to a close when they found Robert Kelly (R. Kelly) not guilty of fourteen counts of child pornography (due to lack of evidence). I know what your thinking, lack of evidence...weren't there hours of it; but technology these days can work wonders. Well, at least according to the defense it can. Or is it that money can work wonders. You decide. Either, way it goes...he's a free man. I'm sure he can be found in some body's church shouting praises prior to heading back to the studio to produce more hot fire. Last year was awesome...

This year is going to be OFF DA CHAIN!

The mission and vision of Urban Fashion Week is to create, develop and promote a "true" fashion industry in the city of Memphis. An industry that allows for the growth and empowerment of aspiring designers, retailers, models, make-up artisits, etc. We can do it. We can continue to push forward... as long as we do it together! Urban Fashion Week is all about that. Thanks in advance for being part of Urban Fashion Week 2008.

Key Information:

Event will take place 1st part of September

Designer and Model Call will be announced June 8, 2008

There will be a Urban Fashion Week Model Tour (TBA)

Official Website will launch June 3, 2008

Ok... I have to be honest about this one. I don't know what the helli s going on with "OUR" team. We just need prayer. We traded away Pau Gasol for what? ... an ice cream cone and a plastic whistel. we didn't get the #1 or the #2 not even the #3 draft pick this year! Come on basketball gods... smile on us. Still, I'll be at the games.

New Restaurants

I've been to cities all over the country. I have to give credit where credit is due. Memphis has a great variety of really nice restaurants all over the "M". Let us know if we've missed any. Here are some of my favorites:

Onix - Wings & Finger Food... TRY THE HONEY GOLD! (on South Main St), Jim's Place - Steaks, fine Dining (on Shelby Oaks at Sycamore View), Blu Fin - Sushi Bar (Main st. Trolley Line), Round 1 - Variety Menu / Lobster Tails & Veggies (on Winchester at Kirby), Westy's (was called North End) - Mix of everything... TRY THE BROWNIE! (North Main St), Germantown Commissary - Bar B Que (Poplar and Germantown), There's so many others, but these are wonderful. What's some of your favorites?
